On April 27th 2023, we successfully voted to unionize (with a 98% majority!). It was a stellar victory! Clearly, the UMassD graduate student employees meant business.
These numbers also show how badly mistreated the UMassD grad workers are. Making less than 10% of a living wage is truly brutal. It is time to change this nightmare.
WE DESERVE BETTER.
We are now working hard to secure a strong first Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the University of Massachusetts. Our CBA Team's negotiation priorities are shaped entirely and exclusively by the graduate student employees at UMassD.
Our first bargaining session with the university was on November 15th 2023, and we had 8 bargaining sessions throughout the next year. Our full first proposal was 75 pages long!
On November 4th 2024, we jointly agreed to mediation with the university. Since then, we've had 2 meetings with the mediator and 2 formal mediation sessions (on February 5th 2025 and March 25th 2025). Our next mediation session is not yet scheduled.
